Investigations

Corrosion failures can occur in all industry sectors with virtually all metal types. Some of these can have catastrophic consequences while others can be expensive and disruptive to put right. Over the last twelve years, MCS has carried out over 100 investigations for numerous clients big and small and we like to pride ourselves in virtually always getting to the root cause of the problem and giving practical solutions. Clients have included water treatment companies, heating and plumbing companies, original equipment manufacturers, hospitals, schools, insurance companies and government bodies.

We have particular expertise in carrying out failure investigations in closed heating and chilled water systems and copper drinking water systems. However, in the last few years we have also investigated corrosion of a firebox in a steam locomotive and fatigue corrosion cracking of a submarine propeller shaft.

Expert witness work for court cases can be provided.

To discover the causes of corrosion failure and prevent further damage we offer the following services:

  • Site Visits to inspect systems and carry on on-site measurements
  • Examination and analysis of failed components
  • Analysis of water and debris samples

Review of commissioning, operational and maintenance records

"Would definitely recommend. Hope we won't have to see Dr Munn again but if needed we would choose him!!"
