Dr. Phillip Munn C.Eng, MICorr, MIMMM, FWMSoc

Dr Phil Mun was the founder of MCS since 2001.

Phillip holds a BSc Hons in Metallurgy and Materials Science (Nottingham University) and a PhD Corrosion Science (Corrosion & Protection Centre, UMIST).
 
After academic research in corrosion and surface sciences in Germany, Sweden and the UK, Phillip joined Fernox, a water treatment company in 1989. In 1995 he became Development Manager, responsible for formulating and testing corrosion and scale inhibitors.
 
In 2001, Phillip started Corrosion & Environmental Services which later became MCS and moved up to his beloved Peak District, where he still lives.

Phillip is a recognised expert in the field of corrosion and has served on many international and UK standards and other industry bodies (e.g. BSRIA).  In his current role, Phillip has worked as an independent expert in many litigation cases and has appeared in court on several occasions. In 2017, the 3rd edition of the Federation of Water Research publication – ROCK – Causes of Copper Corrosion in Plumbing Systems was written by him. He is the author of several papers on corrosion including from Eurocorr 2019 in Seville entitled, ‘Pitting Corrosion of Copper Pipes in Domestic Water Systems in the UK’. 

Dr Phil has fully retired from April 2021. However, Phil is appointed as a specialist consultant to work for MCS when required.
